    • From the Dover, New Hampshire Dover Community News, September 20, 2002: "Shirley Allard Community leader Shirley Ethel Larlee Allard, 75, of 320 Blackberry Hill Rd., South Berwick, ME, died Wednesday afternoon, September 11, at the Wentworth Douglass Hospital in Dover. Born and raised in Conway, she was the daughter of Alvena and Donald Larlee. She married Philip Allard in 1945; they would have celebrated their 57th anniversary on September 22. Shirley and Phil had five daughters: Elaine, Susan, Nancy, Lynn and Jane. Shirley was a fulltme mother and homemaker while her girls were young. She later worked for the Maine Extension Service providing assistance to 4-H programs. An active community leader, Shirley was a member of the PTA, a Sunday School teacher, a 4-H leader, and active in her Parish Council and 4-H Leaders Association. After retirement, Shirley and Philip traveled extensively in the US, and particularly enjoyed Alaska and the Soutthwest. They wintered in Lade Lake, FL where they enjoyed swimming and an active social life. Devoted to her family, Shirley facilitated frequent gatherings and reunions. In the spirit of this tradition, a Memorial celebrating her life willl precede the family reunion in July of 2003. Her husband Philip; four daughters Elaine Connell, Susan Oullette, Nancy Varney and Lynn Zacharian; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and her sisters Betty Lou Bearce of Center Conway, and Donna Adam of Wakefield, MA survive Shirley. Shirley fostered a lifelong love of learning with frequent trips to the public library. Donations may be made to: South Berwick Public Library, 225 West Guava St, Lady Lake, FL 32159."
