      EAST MILLINOCKET -- Bernard "Snigg" Larlee, 77, passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2003, in Millinocket. He was born November 9, 1925, in Millinocket, the son of Bernard H. and Mabel (Hollins) Larlee.

      He was predeceased by a sister, Phyllis Larson; and a brother, John T. Larlee. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joan (Gates) Larlee of East Millinocket; a sister, Dorothy Birt of East Millinocket; his son, Peter Larlee and wife, Susan, of East Millinocket; his daughter, Eloise (Larlee) Boss and husband, Donald, of Fremont, New Hampshire; six granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews.

      Bernard was raised in Millinockeet, and graduated from Stearns High School in 1943. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served in the Pacific Fleet during World War II. Upon return home, he attended Ricker Preparatory in Houlton before going to Boston to study aviation mechanics at Wentworth Polytechnical College. His marriage to Joan in 1950 led him to settle in East Millinocket, where he managed a filling station before becoming the town's Postmaster. Neighbors would attest to being able to hear "Snigg" whistle his way to work each day. During his years in East Millinocket, he was an active member of the First Congregational Church of East Millinocket, serving on its many boards and committees. He has also been a long-standing member of the Nollesemic Lodge of Masons. "Snigg" was an avid Schenck sports fan, working as a member of the Booster's club and helping to host many sports banquets through his participation in the Chamber of Commerce.

      A time of visitation will be held between 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the First Congregational Church in East Millinocket. A celebration of life service will be held at the church at 2 p.m. Monday, August 4, 2003, with the Rev. Mark Pilletere, pastor of the First Congregational Church of East Millinocket, officiating. Friends and family are welcomed at the church Monday at 1 p.m. until the time of the services at 2 p.m. A luncheon will follow in the church basement. In lieu of flowers, the faamily is asking that anyone interested in making a memorial gift in Snigg's memory may do to to the memorial fund at the First Congregational Church of East Millinocket, established to provide funds for youth attending Pilgrim Lodge. Arrangements are by R.L. Bouchard Funeral Home, East Millinocket.
